Pixie Lillas

We are pleased to invite Pixie back to Kent again this year but this time in South East London at IYISL, 470 New Cross Road, SE14 6TJ.

Sunday 14 July, 10am-4pm with a break for lunch

Workshop cost: Kent members £55, non-members £60.

We are also offering a concessionary rate from £35 for those on low income.

Pixie Lillas started yoga in 1976 with Dona Holleman in Italy and first went to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute in Pune, India in 1977.

She co-founded the Balmain Iyengar Yoga Studio in 1980 and has been director and principal teacher there ever since. As well as teaching at the BIYS, Pixie runs teacher training courses and workshops in Australia and in Europe.

Pixie has been closely involved with the BKS Iyengar Yoga Association since it started in 1985 and with the running of assessments for teacher certification since that time. Pixie continues to go back to study with the Iyengars on an almost yearly basis.

She is currently Level 4 (Junior Advanced certificate).

This is a general level workshop for students with two or more years’ regular Iyengar yoga practice.

Edgar is a Level 3 Senior teacher, an IY(UK) Assessor and Mentor. He first attended classes as a student in Manchester in 1991 and has taught continuously since qualifying in 1997. Edgar and his wife Lydia named their studio in Corsham, Yogatree, having been inspired by BKS Iyengar's wholistic vision of yoga in his book Yoga Vrksa.

Yoga Teacher Emergency First Aid

MGM Training are running a Yoga Teacher Emergency First Aid at Work course on 25 February 2024 at 10am - 4pm in St Mary Cray, Orpington. Kent Iyengar Yoga have organised this day so that we can reduce the cost - £30 (normally £95 +VAT if you book through them on an individual basis).

The workshop will include discussion about assisting students and using practical skills to make safe and effective adjustments. Priscila Diniz

Priscila Diniz - Fundraising Event

Priscila organizing a fundraising event for Bellur Trust.  It will be at the Lodge Space in Surrey Quays and we will be holding Sirsasana (head stand) and Sarvangasana (shoulder stand) and/or some simpler inversions like downward dog, etc within your capacity : 3 min, 5 min, 7 min, 10 min, 15 min and 20 min.  As you know, there are many benefits for holding a correct inversion for longer time, specially head and shoulder stand.  So this challenge will bring good health to you as one of the great rewards. Marios Argiros

Marios was inspired early on in his yoga journey by Tricia Booth and Jeanne Maslen, who both encouraged him to take his dedication to Iyengar yoga further and follow the teacher training course at Manchester Iyengar Yoga Institute. As a professional classical musician he found that the concentration, discipline and self-practice needed in music could be applied to yoga in the same way. He qualified in 2002.

He has been a Senior Intermediate Level 3 (now level 3) teacher for many years, and continues to make regular visits to India to study with the Iyengar family at the Ramamani Memorial Institute in Pune, and also with Jawahar Bangera and Firooza Ali.

He now divides his time between Hertfordshire and Greece, and combines teaching local classes and yoga therapy with giving workshops in the UK and Europe. He has also taught in the USA.

AGM & Free Class

Our AGM will be held on Saturday 30 September at 2pm on Zoom, followed by a free class for KIY members. No need to book - please join by using the second link below.

AGM papers are located on the Admin page, please use the link below. We encourage you to support your group by attending the meeting and free class afterwards.

In the first of a new series, we are inviting KIY teachers to lead classes or workshops online and live. The first one will be led by our Chair, Louise Percy. The class will be general level and open to all members. Louise is a level 3 teacher and has been teaching in the Chislehurst and Sidcup area for over 13 years.

The Water Element
Understanding the Directionality of the Asanas (poses). Be aware of the flow of energy within the poses.
 

In this workshop, you will be made aware of the subtle muscle and skin movements that make the Asana “Signature”. You will understand where the anchor of the pose is and how to activate the muscular skeletal body in order to achieve a balanced and lighter presentation of the asanas. Learning these movements help you improve your asana performance and access the therapeutic benefits of the pose more easily and efficiently.

Marco Cannavo

Marco was born in Italy. After a career as a professional dancer, he came to London where he learned Iyengar yoga. He has been practicing since 1993 and teaching since 1998.

He teaches Beginners, General and Intermediate classes and has visited Pune several times. He is an assessor for the UK Iyengar Yoga Association.

He holds a level 3 certification, he is a mentor and has recently been involved in promoting Iyengar Yoga for men.

PD Day with Brenda Booth

This is a three hour workshop for Iyengar Yoga Teachers as part of their professional development.

The PD Day is being conducted by Brenda Booth who has been teaching for over 40 years and has visited RIMYI since 1982. Brenda has been teaching PD Days for 20 years and is also an active member of the Iyengar Yoga Association’s PD Committee. Brenda is also a mentor.

Firooza Ali Razvi

Firooza studied intensively with Yogacharya BKS Iyengar from 1977 as well as Geeta and Sri Prashant Iyengar from 1979. She has been teaching for The Light on Yoga Research Trust in Mumbai, India since 1980.

With a curiosity ignited by yoga, in 1982 she gained a Masters in Philosophy. She has been teaching philosophy to undergraduates ever since. Her philosophical understanding informs and illuminates her yoga teaching, providing a deep connection between Indian philosophy and the practice of yoga.

Internationally, Firooza has established a strong and growing following in the UK, USA, South Africa and Europe since she stared teaching outside of India in 2006.

This two day workshop on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 July 12-2pm BST each day is open to all Iyengar students with one year’s regular practice.

Jayne Orton ‘Practising around Level 2’ For Students and Teachers

Iyengar Yoga practitioners with a minimum of five years regular practise, who wish to further their knowledge of the new Level 2 syllabus are welcome. This Level 2 workshop is aimed at Level 1 or Level 2 teachers and experienced students who wish to improve their understanding and practise of the asanas on the new Level 2 syllabus. Particular emphasis is given on how more complex poses are built from more basic poses included in Level 1.

Equipment required: standard yoga equipment plus a chair
